SINCE TIME IMMEMORIAL, the Anishinaabe has enjoyed their cultural, economical and political lifestyle throughout the territory which is now known as Northwest Ontario and Southeast Manitoba. The Anishinaabeg throughout this region were independent and very proud.
Wabaseemoong Chief and Council strive to revitalize the life and the laws of our ancestors through the exercise of inherent jurisdiction.
Welcome to our website
Wabaseemoong Traditional Land Use Area (TLUA) was an assertion of our past elders. This land and its resources was their source of life, identity and dignity. Their traditional knowledge on aboriginal resource management has kept this part of the world rich in resources. The time has come when everyone needs to benefit from the resources and most importantly, to maintain its natural beauty by exercising the inherent responsibility to look after and care for all the resources. These have been bestowed upon us by the Creator so therefore all creation is sacred. We must honor all that is sacred. We need to share in proper protocols when it comes to the resources such as forestry, mining, tourism, hunting, fishing, medicines and many others. We look forward to continued partnership building, economy building, joint stewardship and ensuring that our children and their children will enjoy the fruits of our work and look after the lands and resources as it has looked after us.
